Falling, like dew, upon a thought, produces That which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.'

Moleskine Design

Each Moleskine has a rigid, bound oilcloth 'moleskine' cover, with a durable thread bound binding and fine Italian acid-free paper pages. Each Moleskine notebook also has a built-in elastic closure that holds the sturdy cover closed, a ribbon placeholder, and an expandable accordion pocket in the back made of cardboard and oilcloth for holding tickets, notes and clippings.

Common Bound

To be a trusted companion you need to be light and durable. The thread bound binding design of a Moleskine notebook allows it to open flat, allowing one to easily write or draw from one side to the other.  The Moleskine thread-bound binding produces a very durable book, as compared to other less expensive bindings (such as perfect bound or glued bindings).

Combining the thread bound binding with the unique oilcloth 'moleskine' textured cover, with leather-like strength, allows it to survive abuses that other notebooks would fear. Oilcloth is a term used to describe cloth or paper that is treated with a drying oil or synthetic resin. One familiar type of oilcloth is the sturdy the traditional gingham or tavern check oilcloth tablecloths used on picnic and outdoor tables. The Moleskine book cover is made with a rigid book board backing with a durable synthetic resin surface producing a textured faux-leather cover that is holds up under extreme conditions, which we believe often accompanies normal use.

Back Pocket Traveler or More Room Please

Moleskine is a now a family of notebooks. Each designed for different functions. Each possesses the minimalism and style that is inherent with Moleskine books.

The traditional trusty, Pocket sized traveling companions measure 3.5 x 5.5 inches and they fit most anywhere. This is the size of the original Moleskine notebook, and are as right now as they were back 100 years ago.

In recent years a new, Large version was introduced, it measures 5.25 x 8.25 inches and provides additional space.  Size is a user preference. Many opt to manage multiple sizes, each with a purpose, time and place.

Cahier Journals, Reminiscent of School Notebooks

Introduced in 2005, the Moleskine Cahier [ kaa yáy ] Journals are offered as a set of 3 notebooks, each with a heavy duty cardboard cover with visible stitching on the spine. Moleskine Cahier notebooks are available in two colors: a classic Black cover or Buff colored cover and three sizes: pocket sized 3.5 x 5.5 inches, large size 5.25 x 8.25 inches, and extra large size 7.5 x 9.75 inches. This ultra-lightweight version is a great daily living companion, each about 1/3 the thickness of the classic books.

Sold as a set of three journals, cahier notebooks are reminiscent of traditional report notebooks. Each consists of acid-free paper, and the last 16 pages are detachable by means of a micro-perforated edge. Inside the back page there is the spacious pocket for notes or clippings.
